Bengaluru, A petition has been filed in the Karnataka High Court by one A. Krishnappa seeking quashing of an FIR registered against him in connection with an alleged incident of dishonouring the National Flag. The petitioner’s counsel, senior advocate Vivek Subbareddy, argued that there was no intent to insult the flag.

The High Court has issued notices to Tilak Nagar Police and complainant Manjunath. It has also granted an interim order directing authorities not to file a chargesheet in the matter until further proceedings.

The incident in question reportedly occurred on May 8 during a celebratory event at Jayanagar in Bengaluru, where BJP MLA Ramamurthy was seen distributing sweets among his supporters. A. Krishnappa was also present at the event and was caught on video allegedly rubbing his hand on the National Flag after taking sweets.

The video has since gone viral on social media, sparking controversy.

Several political critics and social media users condemned the incident, accusing BJP leaders of disrespecting the National Flag. One social media post read:

“During a sweet distribution event in Jayanagar, BJP MLA C.K. Ramamurthy and BJP leaders insulted the National Flag by using it like a cloth. These so-called nationalists can never truly accept the Indian Flag or Constitution. As followers of Manusmriti, they cannot embrace the ideals of equality, unity, and integrity represented by the Tricolor.”

The case continues to stir political debate as legal proceedings unfold in the High Court.
