BJP challenges MLA H.C. Balakrishna on irrigation contribution
Magadi: The BJP has questioned five-time MLA H.C. Balakrishna's contributions to the irrigation sector in Magadi taluk, challenging him to publicly explain what he has delivered so far.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP office on Saturday, BJP leader Prasad Gowda alleged that six months ago, the party, along with the farmers' association, had staged a protest near Maruru on the National Highway demanding Hemavathi water. "At that time, MLA Balakrishna did not support our movement. Had he stood with us then, the representatives from Tumakuru would have backed off. Instead, his silence led to prohibitory orders and the inevitable resumption of the Express Canal project," Gowda stated.
Magadi taluk lacks a natural river source, he noted, stressing the need for lift irrigation projects to supply water to farmers. "We are ready to protest in the streets and also pursue a legal fight to claim our rightful share of Hemavathi water," he added.
Gowda emphasized the need for a non-partisan movement, urging all political parties to unite in the fight for water rights. "Only a united effort can send a strong message to the government and intimidate those obstructing the canal project in Tumakuru district," he said.
He also proposed convening an all-party apolitical meeting involving political leaders, organizations, and community representatives to formulate the next phase of the struggle.
