BESCOM to cut power for buildings without occupancy certificates

Published on

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has announced stringent action against property owners who have failed to submit their Occupancy Certificates (OC). As per a Supreme Court directive, the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) and BESCOM will disconnect power supply to buildings lacking this mandatory document. Authorities emphasize that OCs serve as legal proof that a building complies with safety and zoning regulations. Many structures in Bengaluru have been constructed without proper approvals, violating urban planning laws. BESCOM has now issued a seven-day notice to defaulters, urging them to submit the required documentation. Failure to comply will result in immediate power disconnection.

Reasons for Power Disconnection:

Lack of valid Occupancy Certificates (OCs).

KERC and Supreme Court directives mandating strict enforcement.

Buildings constructed illegally or without proper approvals.

Owners given a seven-day deadline to submit OCs.

Residents facing disconnection must immediately approach BESCOM with necessary documents to regularize their power connections. Unauthorized buildings that fail to comply will be subject to permanent disconnection. Authorities warn that such illegal constructions pose serious safety risks. BBMP and BESCOM stress that obtaining an OC is a legal requirement, ensuring structural integrity and safety. They urge citizens to adhere to regulations to avoid inconvenience and legal repercussions. The rising number of unauthorized buildings in Bengaluru has raised concerns about safety and urban planning violations. BESCOM’s strict enforcement aims to curb illegal constructions and ensure compliance with regulatory norms.
