Bengaluru set for heavy weekend showers as temperatures drop
As summer reaches its midpoint, Bengaluru is preparing for a significant change in weather. After a dry spell and a surge in heat over the past few days, the city is expected to experience widespread rainfall from April 11 to 13.
The current maximum temperature of 34°C is predicted to drop to around 32°C, while the minimum temperature may decline to 20–21°C. According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), several parts of the city will witness light to moderate rainfall, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy showers.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also forecasted over the weekend. The pre-monsoon activity, which had briefly paused, is gaining momentum again across Bengaluru and several districts in southern Karnataka.
Daily patterns suggest warm mornings, with scorching heat around noon, followed by a sharp drop in temperature and evening rains. Widespread showers are expected to continue till late night.
The resurgence of rain is attributed to cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, which continues to impact the southern states. As a result, interior Karnataka, the coastal region, and the Malnad belt are witnessing increased rainfall activity, while most parts of north Karnataka remain dry. This weekend’s showers are expected to provide temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave in Bengaluru, making the weather pleasant and cooler across the city.
