Bengaluru ranks 14th in global startup ecosystem, highest jump among top 20 cities
Bengaluru, often hailed as India’s Silicon City, has added another feather to its cap by securing the 14th spot in the list of the world’s top 20 startup ecosystems, according to the Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) 2025 by Startup Genome. This marks a significant jump of seven positions compared to last year, when the city stood at 21st place — making it the biggest leap recorded among the top 20 cities globally.
Among Indian cities listed in the report, Bengaluru ranks highest, followed by Delhi at 29th and Mumbai at 40th. Globally, Silicon Valley retains the top position, followed by New York and London in second and third places, respectively. Bengaluru also secured 5th position among the top 50 AI cities worldwide.
The report attributes Bengaluru’s rise to a combination of strong government support for the deep-tech ecosystem and major IPO launches in 2024. Notable among these were:
Swiggy – ₹96,000 crore IPO
GoDigit – ₹30,000 crore
Indegene – ₹11,000 crore
Blackbuck – ₹8,600 crore
These IPOs delivered substantial returns to early investors and signaled the robustness of India's startup landscape.
The GSER 2025 highlights how Bengaluru's vibrant startup ecosystem, bolstered by a focus on deep-tech innovation and investor-friendly policy support from the Karnataka government, continues to attract global attention and investment.
