Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow line gets clearance
The much-anticipated Yellow Line of Namma Metro has cleared a major milestone, receiving statutory safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), paving the way for commercial operations to begin soon. The line, which connects RV Road to Bommasandra, spans 19.2 km and includes 16 stations.
Officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed that the safety inspection, which began earlier this month, was successfully completed without any major observations. The CMRS approval is a critical step required before passenger services can commence.
The Yellow Line will significantly improve public transport in South Bengaluru, linking several key localities such as Jayadeva Hospital, Ragigudda, Central Silk Board, HSR Layout, and Electronic City. It also connects with the upcoming Pink Line at the Jayadeva Interchange, which will become the city’s first multi-level metro station.
Sources within BMRCL revealed that final touches are being applied to stations and signalling systems, with trial runs already conducted successfully over the last few weeks. The line is expected to be inaugurated by the end of August or early September, pending a formal schedule from the Karnataka government.
The Yellow Line Is a critical addition to Bengaluru’s metro network, expected to reduce traffic congestion and enhance last-mile connectivity in the southern tech corridor. With over 1.5 lakh daily riders estimated to use the line, it marks a significant step toward easing Bengaluru’s urban mobility woes. BMRCL plans to introduce a phased operational rollout once the launch date is officially announced.
