Bengaluru metro passenger fined ₹500 for eating inside train: BMRCL emphasizes cleanliness rules
Violations of Namma Metro rules continue to surface, with the latest incident involving a woman passenger fined ₹500 for eating inside a moving metro train. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) reported that the woman was traveling from Madavara to Magadi Road metro station on April 26 when she was spotted consuming food from a box she had brought along.
Eating and drinking inside metro trains and premises are strictly prohibited under BMRCL regulations to maintain cleanliness and ensure a pleasant environment for all passengers. A fellow commuter recorded a video of the woman eating and uploaded it on social media, bringing the violation to public attention.
Upon entering Madavara station on Monday morning, security personnel identified her and imposed the fine according to the rules. BMRCL emphasized that such actions help preserve hygiene across metro stations and trains, contributing to a safe and comfortable travel experience.
The corporation reiterated its commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards and urged all passengers to comply with metro rules. “Namma Metro is a shared space, and protecting its environment is a collective responsibility,” BMRCL stated in its press release. They further encouraged commuters to actively participate in keeping the metro clean and to respect guidelines, ensuring a smooth and hygienic journey for everyone.
Strict enforcement of rules, officials said, is vital to sustain the quality and reputation of Bengaluru’s growing metro network.
