Bengaluru metro achieves record ridership on April 17, crosses 9 lakh mark
Amid the city’s ever-growing traffic congestion, residents are increasingly turning to Namma Metro for daily commutes. Even those owning personal vehicles now prefer the metro for its efficiency and time-saving benefits. Over the past year, daily ridership has averaged between 6 to 7 lakh commuters.
On April 17, 2025, Namma Metro recorded an all-time high with 9, 08,153 passengers, breaking its previous single-day record of 9.17 lakh set on August 14, 2024, according to BMRCL officials. Commuter traffic has seen significant growth on key routes. The Green Line alone saw 4, 35,156 commuters, while the Purple Line catered to 2, 85,240 passengers.
The recently extended Purple Line, especially the section connecting Mysuru Road to Challaghatta, has greatly benefited commuters, boosting real estate activity in nearby areas like Ramohalli.
The metro’s expansion has made daily commutes more convenient for residents around Mysuru Road. With improved access to key landmarks such as Rajarajeshwari Medical College, Kengeri metro and bus stations, and BG railway station, more people now rely on the metro.
The area also offers proximity to hospitals, shopping malls, restaurants, and schools, further increasing its appeal. Namma Metro continues to be the lifeline of Bengaluru, promising smoother travel and better connectivity across the city.
The growing reliance on Bengaluru’s metro is a clear reflection of changing commuter preferences. With increasing traffic congestion and longer travel times by road, residents are turning to faster, more reliable alternatives.
