In a tragic incident that has raised concerns over urban infrastructure and tree maintenance in Bengaluru, a 30-year-old man riding a scooter was critically injured after a heavy tree branch fell on him near Banashankari on Sunday afternoon. The victim, identified as Akshay, is currently in a coma and battling for life in a private hospital.

The incident occurred at around 1:15 PM near the Brahmachaitanya Mandira area in Banashankari when Akshay was on his way to purchase meat for his father’s birthday celebration. As he rode past a stretch of road lined with large trees, a thick branch suddenly snapped and fell directly onto his head, causing severe injuries.

Local residents rushed to his aid and shifted him immediately to a nearby private hospital in Jayanagar, where neurosurgeons conducted emergency surgery.

Dr. Sreedatta, the neurosurgeon treating Akshay, said, “When Akshay was brought in, he had suffered a massive head injury due to the impact of the branch. We performed emergency surgery to control the bleeding. The skull had over ten fractures, and the brain has sustained significant trauma. His condition remains extremely critical.”

“Akshay is currently in a coma, and we are administering medication to keep his organs functioning. It’s too early to predict anything definitive. The next few hours are crucial,” the doctor added.

According to hospital sources, the surgery lasted nearly three hours, and Akshay continues to be under close observation in the intensive care unit. He is employed with a private firm and was on a routine errand when the freak accident occurred.
