City Police Restructure Aimed at Reducing Crime and Improving Public Safety

With the city’s population rapidly increasing, Bengaluru Police have strengthened their law enforcement structure by introducing three new law and order divisions. The move aims to improve crime control and ensure better policing across key areas facing high workload and growing criminal activity.

Previously operating with eight sub-divisions, the city now has 11 police divisions following the addition of new DCP units in Electronic City, South-West, and North-West Bengaluru. The North-West Division will now oversee police stations in Peenya, Rajagopalnagar, Bagalagunte, Byadarahalli, Soladevanahalli, and Gangammanagudi , previously part of the North Division. IPS officer D.L. Chetan has been appointed as the DCP of the newly formed division.

Electronic City Division has been carved out to manage areas experiencing rapid urbanisation and IT growth. M. Narayan has been named as its first DCP. Police stations under this division include Electronic City, Hulimavu, Begur, Parappana Agrahara, Bandepalya, and Hebbagodi. The South-West Division will be headed by Anita B. Haddanavar. This new division will comprise Kengeri, Jnanabharathi, R.R. Nagar, and Kumbalgodu — earlier under the West Division along with Subramanyapura, Talaghattapura, Kumaraswamy Layout, and Konanakunte from the South Division.

The restructuring follows a proposal from the police department to the state government, aimed at tackling rising crime and preparing for future law-and-order challenges. The government has accepted the proposal and issued orders for the new divisions and appointments. This strategic re-organisation is expected to enhance administrative efficiency and provide faster response times across Bengaluru’s growing neighborhoods.
