Bengaluru firm seized for violating BIS norms
A Bengaluru-based firm has been accused of illegally storing and selling products that violate the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India and the BIS Act, 2016.
During a recent operation, authorities seized several models of products that were not licensed and misused the ISI mark and registration mark, which are key components of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification process. The seized items, totaling 104 varieties and approximately 17,500 units, included wireless earbuds, Bluetooth earphones, speakers, toys, footwear, cables, and other consumer goods.
Many of these products fell under the Compulsory Registration Scheme, while others required Mandatory Certification by BIS, in line with the QCOs. These regulations stipulate that no product can be manufactured or sold without a valid BIS license and adherence to relevant Indian Standards. The operation was spearheaded by Narender Reddy Beesu (Director), Vinodini Kishore (Director), Premlata Sinha (Joint Director), and Piyush Kumar Gupta (Assistant Director). Authorities also took the opportunity to educate the warehouse staff on proper compliance procedures, ensuring that sellers are aware of the necessary checks before storing goods on the premises.
This crackdown highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring that only certified, safe, and high-quality products reach consumers. Authorities have emphasized the importance of strict compliance with BIS standards to protect consumers from substandard and potentially harmful products. The firm in question now faces legal action, and further investigations are ongoing to identify other possible offenders.
