BDA Plans To Remove Hebbal Flyover Loops To Ease Traffic Congestion

Published on

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is set to address traffic congestion on the Hebbal Flyover by removing two existing loops. These loops, currently serving traffic entering from KR Puram and Tumkur Road/Bellary Road service road to reach Mehkri Circle, will be dismantled to make way for a new lane connecting Baptist Hospital to a road adjacent to the tree park at the bustling intersection.

The construction of this new lane, spanning 750 meters, aims to improve traffic flow from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to Mehkri Circle. However, the implementation of this project necessitates the removal of the loops, a move expected to cost Rs 90 crore.

A BDA official highlighted the importance of consulting with traffic police before making a final decision, considering the area's high vehicle density. Additionally, a new merging lane will be constructed, allowing drivers heading towards Mehkri Circle to merge seamlessly with existing traffic after crossing the rail track.

To accommodate traffic from the KR Pura side, an alternate 150-meter-long loop will be constructed. The completion of ramp works is slated for December, according to BDA officials.

In the interim, traffic police have restricted vehicle movement on the ramp, permitting only two-wheelers. Other drivers seeking access to Hebbal and Mehkri Circle must navigate alternative routes, making a right turn under the flyover and executing a U-turn before the Kodigehalli signal.

In a bid to further enhance junction traffic flow, BDA aims to raise Rs 300 crore for additional improvement projects.
