Begur police arrested 27-year-old BCA graduate Murthy K for committing 16 thefts across Bengaluru since 2023. He was caught during an investigation into a theft in Lakshmi Layout, Garvebhavipalya. Murthy’s arrest helped solve six thefts in Begur and two in Suryanagar, with 261 grams of gold ornaments worth ₹18.5 lakh recovered. Previously arrested for eight other thefts, Murthy turned to crime after developing a gambling addiction and taking out loans. One of his crimes occurred on December 20, when he stole gold and cash from Mahesh BN’s house. Murthy was arrested on December 29 after CCTV footage led to his identification. He confessed to several thefts and pledged the stolen gold at finance firms. Begur police inspector Krishnakumar PS has offered Murthy help in finding a job if he decides to change his ways.
