The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to make 12,692 civil servants permanent by May 1st. These employees, who have been working on contract and direct-pay arrangements, will receive their appointment letters on the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary and Civil Services Day.

The announcement was made by BBMP administrator S.R. Umashankar, who confirmed that their salaries would now be paid directly by the BBMP.

At a ceremony held at the Glass House on Thursday, Dr. Rajkumar of BBMP emphasized the invaluable services of these civil servants who work tirelessly in all weather conditions to maintain cleanliness and public health. Despite some complaints during the recruitment process, Dr. Umashankar assured that the procedure is nearly complete, eliminating any scope for fraud or misuse. In the near future, these permanent workers will benefit from better living conditions, including housing schemes, various facilities, financial assistance for children’s education, and bonuses.

Additionally, on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, the permanent civil servants will be awarded a bonus of ₹22,000, while direct-pay workers will receive ₹8,000. BBMP’s Chief Commissioner, Tushar Girinath, stressed the importance of understanding Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions and encouraged everyone to read and promote his ideologies. The ceremony also honored 17 outstanding municipal workers and children of civic employees who performed exceptionally in their academics.

This move by BBMP aims to provide job security and improved benefits for its civic workers, reflecting a significant step towards recognizing their essential contributions to the city’s upkeep.
