BBMP to launch ‘BBMP One’ app to integrate civic complaint platforms

To simplify the process of lodging civic complaints, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is developing an integrated mobile application, BBMP One, which will consolidate multiple existing apps under one platform. Currently, citizens must download various apps such as Fix Pothole, Sahaaya, e-Khatha, Advertisement App, and Property GPS App to access different civic services or file complaints. Recognizing the inconvenience faced by residents, BBMP aims to unify these services under the BBMP One app as part of the ‘Tech Bengaluru’ initiative, a key component of the broader ‘Brand Bengaluru’ program introduced in the recent BBMP budget. The civic body has allocated ₹40 crore for the initiative, intending to streamline governance and enhance citizen engagement. While some residents welcomed the move, others remain skeptical. Banumathi, a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout, called it a citizen-friendly initiative but emphasized the need for BBMP to act promptly on complaints. However, N.S. Mukunda, founder member of Bengaluru Praja Vedike, criticized the initiative, arguing that BBMP should prioritize its core responsibilities instead of creating more apps. He pointed out that previous BBMP apps have not been effective and feared this new platform might serve as a bureaucratic tool to delay action. Mukunda further questioned the necessity of such apps, stating that ward-level engineers are already aware of local civic issues. “Should citizens really need an app to get problems resolved when officials should proactively address them?” he asked.
