BBMP split sparks BJP’s strong opposition
Senior BJP leaders in Bengaluru have expressed strong opposition to the Karnataka government’s decision to split the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) into five divisions. In a meeting held to discuss the city’s key issues, BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra criticised the move as unscientific and detrimental to Bengaluru’s development.
Vijayendra stated that such administrative restructuring has failed in cities like Mumbai and would only lead to inefficiencies and injustice to the citizens. He also condemned the underground tunnel road project, alleging that tenders were floated without a proper cost-benefit analysis and that blacklisted companies were involved. He questioned whether the decision was aimed at development or influenced by other motives.
The BJP has vowed to oppose both the BBMP division and the tunnel road project now and in the future. The leaders further criticised the state government for its failure to manage the fertilizer crisis in agricultural districts like Kalaburagi, Gadag, and Shivamogga. Farmers are facing severe shortages and are forced to buy seeds and fertilizers at inflated prices. Vijayendra accused the government of creating an artificial shortage and aiding middlemen.
While the Chief Minister blamed the Centre for inadequate support, BJP leaders countered by highlighting that Karnataka had received more than its expected share of fertilizer this monsoon. The BJP has announced plans to continue protesting against the government’s neglect of both urban and rural concerns, asserting that both Bengaluru residents and Karnataka’s farmers are being failed by the current administration.
