BBMP launches drive to remove unauthorized cables in March
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched the “Unauthorized OFC Removal Operation – March 2025” campaign to clear illegally installed Optical Fiber Cables (OFC) across the city. The Chief Commissioner has issued a circular directing officials to begin the removal process from March 3, 2025. As part of this initiative, all eight zones of BBMP will remove unauthorized OFC cables installed along ward roads. The responsibility for this operation has been assigned to assistant and junior engineers in each ward, while assistant executive engineers have been instructed to oversee the process. BBMP officials have noted that many unauthorized cables are installed on trees, electric poles, and at ground level, impacting the city’s aesthetics and safety. To address this, the civic body is determined to conduct a systematic and effective removal operation throughout March. The drive has already commenced in Mahadevapura and East zones. In Mahadevapura, unauthorized OFC cables were removed from Marathahalli Main Road, Kaggadasapura, and Doddanekkundi. Similarly, in the East zone, the operation was carried out in and around Halasuru. BBMP has warned service providers against reinstalling unauthorized cables in the same locations. The operation will continue in a phased manner across all zones to ensure strict enforcement and restore the city’s urban appeal.
