BBMP issues notice to Virat Kohli’s restaurant for violating fire safety norms

Published on

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a notice to the One8 Commune Bar and Restaurant, owned by cricket star Virat Kohli, for violating fire safety regulations in the city. Located opposite the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the One8 Commune Bar and Restaurant, a franchise owned by Kohli, has been accused of operating without the necessary fire brigade-approved map, certification, and NOC license. The notice was issued after a complaint was lodged by social activist H.M. Venkatesh, prompting BBMP’s health department in Shantinagar to take action. This is the second notice sent to the establishment, as no response was received to the first one. The BBMP has now demanded a written response and warned of legal action if no reply is received. This is not the first time the establishment has been in the spotlight. In July, an FIR was registered against the management of the One8 Commune Bar, along with two other restaurants, by the Cubbon Park Police Station. The case involved accusations of allowing customers to stay beyond the permissible hours, violating government-mandated operating timelines. The BBMP’s latest notice has further fueled concerns regarding safety violations in hospitality establishments in Bengaluru, raising questions about enforcement of safety norms in bars and restaurants across the city. Authorities have now called for a swift resolution to this ongoing issue.
