BBMP imposes hefty fines for littering
In a renewed effort to tackle the city’s mounting garbage issues, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun imposing hefty fines on individuals found littering in public spaces across Bengaluru.
With the number of black spots increasing and sanitation deteriorating in several areas, BBMP’s East Zone Commissioner Snehal has issued strict orders to identify those dumping waste on roadsides and penalize them accordingly. The initiative aims to curb indiscriminate dumping and promote responsible waste disposal.
During an inspection in Ward 62 – Ramaswamy Palya, the commissioner instructed officials to intensify enforcement, clean up black spots, and raise public awareness. The inspection also covered Chinnappa Garden Main Road, where the auto tipper mustering point was evaluated. All drivers were found present and punctual. However, construction debris was noticed near the area, and orders were given to remove it immediately and install metal sheets to prevent further dumping. Further, the attendance center for municipal workers was visited, and staff were directed to wear gloves, report on time, and ensure their assigned streets are kept clean.
Instructions were also issued at Ayappa School near M.R.S. Palya, where auto drivers were reminded to collect household waste on schedule. This robust sanitation drive—likely to expand to other city zones—was launched with participation from AGMs, marshals, junior health inspectors, and other officials. BBMP hopes this initiative will serve as a deterrent and encourage a cleaner, more responsible Bengaluru.
