BBMP gets power over land conversion and map approvals, easing property process
In a significant move, the Karnataka Congress government has announced a major relief for property owners in Bengaluru. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda informed that several key services related to property, including land conversion and map approval—earlier managed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA)—have now been handed over to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Until now, property owners had to approach both BBMP and BDA for different approvals, leading to delays and confusion. With this new development, BBMP will now handle essential services under one roof, benefiting those who own revenue properties. The government has also eased the process for approving single-site building designs.
Moreover, it has announced that ‘B Khatas’ will now be issued even for unauthorized and revenue properties, which was previously a major hurdle. The transfer of authority aims to simplify map approvals and allow approvals with conversion and improvement charges. To streamline property surveys, the government plans to adopt new technology, updating the outdated methods used for years.
A tender has been issued for the procurement of 5,000 Rovers, which will be used in phased purchases to digitize survey processes. The digitization drive is also expected to reduce the workload on revenue department employees.
This policy reform is a big step towards ease of doing property-related work in Bengaluru, with expectations of more citizen-friendly reforms to follow.
