BBMP fines building owner for encroachment
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a stern warning to those constructing buildings in violation of civic regulations. In a recent action, BBMP imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on a property owner in Basavanagudi, South Zone, for illegally occupying a pedestrian footpath with construction structures.
The property, located on M.N. Krishna Rao Road, had a temporary passage and green net erected over the footpath, obstructing public movement. BBMP officials confirmed that no prior permission had been obtained for this encroachment. In response, the civic body served a notice to the owner, Rajendra Kumar, instructing him to clear the encroachment and pay the penalty.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao directed officials to take strict action against such violations. Following his instructions, Chief Engineer Basavaraj Kabade conducted an inspection and confirmed the illegal installation. The property owner later submitted a cheque of ₹1 lakh in the name of the BBMP Commissioner as penalty.
The BBMP stated that repeated violations causing public inconvenience would not be tolerated. The authority has emphasized that materials used for construction must not be stored on public roads or footpaths and warned of future double penalties for similar offenses. This move marks BBMP’s renewed commitment to enforcing construction norms strictly and ensuring public pathways remain accessible to all.
