BBMP clears encroachments in RR Nagar

In a major anti-encroachment drive, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday cleared several unauthorized structures and footpath encroachments in RR Nagar. The operation, aimed at restoring pedestrian access and easing traffic congestion, led to the eviction of multiple shops, including a painting shop and roadside stalls that had occupied public spaces.

The BBMP’s enforcement team arrived early in the day with the necessary equipment and support staff, and swiftly began dismantling temporary structures and seizing items that had spilled over onto the footpath. Shop owners were caught off guard by the surprise action and expressed shock over the sudden removal of their business setups.

According to BBMP officials, prior notices had been issued to the encroachers warning them of the impending eviction. Despite repeated warnings, many vendors continued to operate illegally on public walkways, prompting the corporation to take strict action. “Public footpaths are for pedestrians, not for commercial use. Continued violations forced us to act. The drive was necessary to ensure public safety and restore civic order,” said a senior BBMP officer overseeing the operation.

Several seized goods, including construction materials, banners, display stands, and furniture, have been taken into BBMP custody. Officials stated that further inspections would be carried out in the coming days to prevent re-encroachments. Local residents welcomed the move, citing long-standing complaints about blocked footpaths and traffic disruptions. The BBMP has urged citizens to report any fresh encroachments to help maintain public infrastructure and urban discipline.
