BBMP cancels officials’ holidays for Ugadi and Eid due to property tax deadline
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to cancel the holidays of its officials and employees on March 30 and 31 in light of the Ugadi and Ramzan festivals. March 30, Sunday, marks the celebration of Ugadi, while March 31, Monday, is observed as Ramzan. These dates coincide with the last two days of the financial year 2024-25. Importantly, March 31 is also the final day for Bengaluru property owners to pay outstanding property taxes without incurring additional interest, penalties, or fines under the one-time settlement scheme implemented by BBMP. Given the likelihood of a large number of property owners coming forward to clear their dues on these days, BBMP has taken the decision to cancel holidays for its staff. This measure ensures that all payments can be processed smoothly without delays, and taxpayers can avail themselves of the benefits of the scheme before the deadline. BBMP has urged property owners to take advantage of this opportunity to settle their taxes without additional charges. Officials will be available on both days to assist taxpayers and facilitate seamless transactions. The cancellation of holidays has sparked discussions among BBMP employees, but authorities emphasize that it is a necessary step to streamline the tax collection process and prevent last-minute inconveniences. With the deadline fast approaching, BBMP officials expect a surge in property tax payments, making their presence essential for effective administration and public service.
