BBMP allocates Rs 730 crore for Pourakarmikas’ welfare in budget

 Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that the BBMP has earmarked a total of Rs 730 crore for pourakarmikas in this year’s budget.

Speaking at a convention of pourakarmikas from Karnataka State Municipal Corporations and Municipalities at Palace Grounds, he outlined the key allocations and welfare measures.

A sum of Rs 500 crore has been allocated for the payment of salaries, while Rs 107 crore has been earmarked for pensions. A pension scheme of Rs 6,000 per month has been introduced, and Rs 10 lakh has been set aside for the families of deceased pourakarmikas.

 In terms of additional support, Rs 5 crore has been allocated for the distribution of shoes, gloves, and safety equipment, and another Rs 5 crore for uniforms.

Tuition fee reimbursement for pourakarmikas’ children will be supported with Rs 6 crore. Furthermore, Rs 6 crore and Rs 4 crore have been set aside for health initiatives, Rs 30 crore for single housing units, Rs 5 crore for skill development, and Rs 5 crore for taxi and auto drivers. A separate welfare fund of Rs 10 crore has also been allocated, bringing the total welfare fund to Rs 64 crore.

“The Congress government is committed to transforming the lives of pourakarmikas. They are the backbone of our cities and our country. Once their jobs are made permanent, salaries will reach Rs 50,000,” Shivakumar stated.
