B-Khata properties get legal recognition
In a major relief for thousands of Bengaluru residents, the Karnataka cabinet has approved legal recognition for B Khata properties, bringing them on par with A Khata holdings under the Greater Bengaluru limits. This long-pending decision is aimed at resolving confusion and disputes surrounding property documentation.
As per the cabinet’s resolution, all B Khata properties registered between May 22, 2020, and September 30, 2024, will now be considered legally valid for all official purposes, similar to A Khata properties. An official government notification formalizing this decision is expected shortly.
The move is expected to benefit property owners who have struggled to obtain BBMP planning approvals, building licenses, Occupancy Certificates (OC), and bank loans due to the limited status of B Khata documents. The government also assured that it will soon release clear guidelines and legal frameworks for implementation.
In addition, the cabinet approved the creation of five new municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority to improve urban administration. However, final decisions regarding their boundaries and jurisdiction will be taken after further consultations with local MLAs.
In another important development, the cabinet granted in-principle approval for the establishment of a nuclear power plant in Karnataka. A detailed survey of potential sites across the state will be conducted, despite NTPC having initially recommended three locations. This multi-pronged cabinet decision is expected to bring clarity to property owners, streamline urban governance, and boost infrastructure development in Karnataka’s capital and beyond.
