Auto fares in Bengaluru increase today
Starting today, auto rickshaw fares across Bengaluru have been officially revised following an order from the Bengaluru City Deputy Commissioner. The hike comes after repeated appeals from auto driver associations citing rising fuel costs and operational expenses.
Under the new fare structure, commuters will now pay ₹36 for the first two kilometers, followed by ₹18 for each additional kilometer. The first five minutes of waiting are free, after which ₹10 will be charged for every 15-minute interval. Passengers are allowed to carry up to 20 kilograms of luggage at no extra cost, while an additional ₹10 will apply for heavier loads.
For night travel—between 10 PM and 5 AM—the fare will be 1.5 times the standard day rate. The Deputy Commissioner has clearly instructed that no auto driver is allowed to demand any amount beyond the revised fare. Strict action will be taken against violators. All auto rickshaws are required to display the new fare chart prominently and install updated fare meters by August 31. Officials have warned that failure to comply will attract penalties.
The fare revision is aimed at ensuring fair compensation for drivers while keeping passenger costs within reasonable limits. Commuters have been encouraged to report any cases of overcharging or fare disputes through official helplines. This fare change marks the first revision in over two years and reflects the city’s attempt to maintain balance between affordability and sustainability in public transport.
