Anganwadi workers disappointed over negligible wage hike in budget
Anganwadi workers and helpers in the state have expressed their disappointment over the recent budget announcement, which has increased their wages by only ₹1,000 and ₹750, respectively. The state president of an independent organization representing them criticized the decision, stating that it has deeply hurt the community. “We went on strike for five days demanding fair wages, and the government assured us that our concerns would be addressed. Based on this promise, we withdrew our protest. However, the budget has failed to recognize our contributions,” the leader said. Anganwadi workers play a crucial role in implementing government schemes related to child development and nutrition. They believe their efforts deserve fair compensation. Before the elections, Priyanka Gandhi had announced in the sixth guarantee that Anganwadi workers would receive ₹15,000. However, the budget made no mention of this promise. The workers feel neglected, pointing out that despite their essential role in supporting families and communities, they continue to be underpaid. They have urged the government to reconsider its stance and take immediate action to provide just wages that reflect their hard work and dedication. Many Anganwadi workers are now planning to resume their protests, demanding that the government fulfill its promises. They argue that their low wages make it difficult to sustain their families despite working tirelessly for child welfare and nutrition programs. Union leaders have warned that if the government fails to act, large-scale protests and strikes may follow in the coming weeks.
