Ajay Seth appointed as secretary in union finance ministry
Senior IAS officer Ajay Seth from the Karnataka cadre has achieved a significant new role in the central government. He has been appointed as Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, as well as Secretary for Revenue.
Before this appointment, Ajay Seth had been serving as the Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Finance Ministry since April 2021. He succeeds Tuhin Kanta Pandey, who has recently been appointed as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Ajay Seth is a 1987 batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, and in July 2018, he took on the role of Managing Director of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). He transitioned to central service in April 2021. During his tenure as Managing Director of BMRCL, Seth played a crucial role in accelerating the construction of the metro, significantly contributing to the city's public transport infrastructure.
The position of Secretary in the Ministry of Finance is a prominent administrative role, second only to the minister, signifying Seth's stature and the trust placed in him to handle key financial matters of national importance. His extensive experience in public administration and economic affairs will undoubtedly be instrumental in his new responsibilities within the central government.
