Actress Ramya files complaint against Darshan’s fans

Ramya Criticizes Online Misogyny After Supreme Court Case Post

Kannada actress and former MP Ramya has filed a formal complaint with the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner against fans of actor Darshan, accusing them of sending obscene and abusive messages through social media. This action follows a suo motu complaint already registered by the Karnataka State Women’s Commission regarding the same issue.

The controversy stems from Ramya’s recent Instagram post commenting on the ongoing Supreme Court proceedings in the Renukaswamy murder case, in which actor Darshan is the second accused. The High Court had previously granted him bail, a decision that the apex court has now taken up for review. Following her post, Ramya alleged that Darshan’s fans began targeting her with vulgar messages and derogatory comments online.

Expressing strong displeasure, Ramya accused the actor’s fan base of launching a coordinated social media attack aimed at silencing her opinion. She called it not just cyberbullying but a reflection of growing online misogyny. In a new twist, actress Rakshita Prem has weighed in on the controversy, reportedly taking a dig at Ramya through an Instagram story. Supporting Darshan indirectly, Rakshita posted, “You never know what people are going through. Always choose kindness.”

Ramya’s legal move has reignited discussions on the toxicity of fan culture and the lack of accountability in digital spaces. Activists have called for stricter enforcement of cyber laws and protection for women speaking out on public issues. The case is expected to spark further debate in the Sandalwood industry and among political circles.
