Record high passenger vehicle sales in Feb
New Delhi
The Indian automobile industry achieved a milestone in February 2025, with record-breaking passenger vehicle sales, including cars and SUVs, as reported by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). This surge in sales was complemented by a strong performance in the three-wheeler segment.
Passenger vehicle sales reached 3,77,689 units in February, reflecting a 1.9% increase compared to the 3,70,786 units sold in February 2024. This marked the highest-ever sales for the month of February. However, the luxury car sales, including brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Jaguar, were not included in these figures, SIAM clarified.
Rajesh Menon, SIAM Director General, expressed optimism, stating that the passenger vehicle segment showed resilience and posted its best February sales. The total sales for the first 11 months of FY 2024-25 stand at 6,92,311 units, a notable 13.6% increase from 2023-24.
The three-wheeler segment also saw a 4.7% growth, with passenger carriers leading the way with a 6.8% rise. However, the two-wheeler segment experienced a significant slowdown, with sales declining 9% to 13,84,605 units. Motorcycles faced a steep 13.1% drop, while scooters saw a small dip of 0.5%. Despite the decline, SIAM remains hopeful that demand will pick up in March, buoyed by upcoming festivals like Holi and Ugadi.
For the financial year, two-wheeler sales reached 38.3 lakh units, reflecting a 22.4% increase over the previous year.
