Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday celebrated the success of the ‘StartUp India’ initiative, calling it a symbol of India's dynamic, confident, and future-ready spirit. He reiterated the government’s commitment to nurturing an entrepreneurial ecosystem that empowers dreams and strengthens ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India).

On the ninth anniversary of the program, PM Modi praised ‘StartUp India’ for revolutionizing innovation, entrepreneurship, and growth. He highlighted the initiative’s role in empowering young people and turning their innovative ideas into successful startups. The program has spanned sectors from tech to healthcare, biotech, fintech, and clean energy, creating jobs and addressing global challenges.

“India’s startup ecosystem is now among the largest and most vibrant in the world,” PM Modi remarked, recalling the skepticism about India's entrepreneurial prospects just a decade ago. As of January 15, 2025, over 1.59 lakh startups have been recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), making India the third-largest startup hub globally.

Since 2016, startups have generated more than 16.6 lakh direct jobs, contributing significantly to employment. PM Modi emphasized the government's focus on ‘Ease of Doing Business,’ better access to resources, and comprehensive support for startups. He also noted his personal engagement with emerging entrepreneurs, further fostering innovation and risk-taking among the youth.
