The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has launched Round 2, offering over one lakh internship opportunities across 730 districts, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) announced on Thursday.
Following six lakh applications in Round 1, the scheme provides young individuals aged 21-24, who are not enrolled in full-time education or employment, a chance to gain work experience. Interns will receive Rs 5,000 as monthly financial assistance and a one-time grant of Rs 6,000.
More than 300 leading companies from sectors like Oil & Gas, Banking, Hospitality, Automotive, Manufacturing, and FMCG have partnered to provide internships. These opportunities allow candidates to gain industry experience, build networks, and improve employability.
Eligible candidates can select internships based on their district, state, sector, or preferred location. In Round 2, applicants can apply for up to three internships before the deadline. Over 70 Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) events are being conducted nationwide, targeting colleges, universities, ITIs, and employment fairs.
Additionally, national-level digital campaigns, including promotions through influencers, aim to boost awareness. The scheme’s objective is to equip India’s youth with 12-month paid internships that combine skill training and professional experience. Each internship includes at least six months of hands-on work to enhance candidates’ capabilities.
PMIS continues to be a major initiative in empowering young individuals by bridging the gap between education and employment. With thousands of internships available, the government aims to provide real-world learning experiences and career-building opportunities to India’s aspiring professionals.
