The Ministry of Commerce & Industry held the 95th Network Planning Group (NPG) meeting on Friday to review infrastructure projects aimed at improving logistics, reducing travel time, and boosting regional development. The NPG assessed five key proposals under PM GatiShakti, focusing on integrated multimodal infrastructure, better last-mile connectivity, and intermodal coordination.
One major project is the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-2A extension by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), which plans to add 6.032 km to link Koteshwar Metro Station with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Another project involves constructing an 8-lane access-controlled highway along NH-248S to improve access to Maharashtra's upcoming Vadhavan Port.
Additionally, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) proposed building a 4-lane elevated road in Jodhpur, from Mahamandir to Akhaliya Chouraha, to reduce congestion along NH-62 and NH-125.
MoRTH also proposed two Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs): one at Parkibanda village in Telangana’s Medak district, and another at Jaitiya village in Bihar’s Patna district. The Bihar MMLP will span 106.19 acres and is expected to handle 5.43 million metric tonnes of cargo annually by 2071, becoming a key logistics hub.
These projects reflect the government’s continued push to create seamless, multimodal transport networks and support economic growth through better infrastructure planning.
