In the financial year 2024–25, more than 1.3 crore people received health, life, and accident insurance through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), according to the Commerce and Industry Ministry. Along with this, GeM also helped hire one million individuals during the same period.

GeM started offering insurance services in January 2022 to improve transparency, lower costs, and speed up the process of buying policies. Only insurance providers approved by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) are allowed on the platform. This ensures trust and reliability.

Government offices can easily purchase Group Mediclaim, Personal Accident, and Term Insurance policies through GeM. This gives financial protection to many people while making the buying process simple and fast.

One major benefit is that GeM allows direct deals between government buyers and insurers. There are no middlemen, which lowers premium costs and speeds up services.

Over time, GeM has added more types of insurance. These include Asset Insurance, Transit and Marine Insurance, Liability Insurance, Livestock Insurance, Motor Insurance, Crop Insurance, and even Cyber Insurance. This wide variety means government buyers can meet all their insurance needs on one easy-to-use platform.

GeM CEO Ajay Bhadoo said this success proves the trust that government departments have in the platform. He said GeM will continue improving to offer secure, fast, and low-cost services. The milestone of insuring over 1.3 crore people shows GeM’s growing importance in public service and digital governance.
