NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has launched commercial operations of its first supercritical power plant at Ghatampur, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The plant, part of a 3 x 660 MW thermal power project, marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey toward adopting advanced energy technologies.

The first 660 MW unit successfully completed trial runs on Dec 7 and began commercial operations from Thursday. This achievement raises NLCIL’s total power generation capacity from 6,071 MW to 6,731 MW, showcasing its capability to handle large-scale projects crucial for India's energy needs.

Developed by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLCIL and UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited, the Ghatampur Thermal Power Station aims to address the rising energy demands in Uttar Pradesh and Assam. The use of supercritical technology ensures enhanced efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions compared to traditional plants. The project is equipped with advanced environmental systems, including flue-gas desulfurization units and electrostatic precipitators, ensuring compliance with sustainable development goals.

Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD of NLCIL, hailed the development as a "historic milestone" and reaffirmed the company's commitment to embracing energy-efficient solutions. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to operationalize the remaining units, contributing to India’s energy self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

This launch signifies NLCIL's dedication to innovation and sustainability, solidifying its role as a key player in India's evolving power sector.
