NITI Aayog organized a National Workshop on “Building Synergies in Indian Innovation Ecosystem” at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, on Monday. The workshop, aimed at strengthening India's innovation landscape, was hosted by the Gujarat Council on Science & Technology (GUJCOST) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat.
The event brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, academic leaders, industrial experts, startup founders, and international representatives. It focused on topics such as R&D investments, state policies on innovation, global trends, and grassroots entrepreneurship to create synergies across various sectors.
In his opening address, V.K. Saraswat, Member (Science & Technology) at NITI Aayog, emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, academia, and industry. He highlighted the need for translational research that leads to impactful innovation and the growth of startups. Saraswat also called for increased support for DeepTech startups and suggested a shift from a service-based to a product-based industry model.
The workshop featured discussions led by eminent leaders in innovation and technology, including Sacha Wunsch-Vincent from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), who outlined India’s innovation journey. He noted the country’s growing intellectual property profile and future plans for Science & Technology clusters.
The workshop concluded with a session on Gujarat's role in fostering innovation, showcasing its progressive policies and commitment to supporting a startup-friendly ecosystem.
