Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has successfully stopped a gas blowout at its RDS#147A well in Sivasagar, Assam. The gas leak began on June 12 and was fully controlled by 11:15 a.m. on Friday.

The Minister shared the news on social media, praising ONGC’s Crisis Management Team and international well control experts. He said their careful planning and teamwork helped solve the issue quickly and safely, without any injuries, deaths, or fire.

He thanked Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state administration for their support during the two-week-long effort. CM Sarma responded with appreciation for the Minister’s leadership and praised the people of Sivasagar for their courage and cooperation during the emergency.

The gas blowout happened at ONGC’s Rudrasagar oil field in Sivasagar. ONGC took immediate action to control the situation after gas started gushing from Well RDS-147. Their quick response helped avoid any major disaster.

ONGC is India’s largest producer of crude oil and natural gas, providing nearly 71% of the country’s total output. Crude oil from ONGC is used by companies like IOC, BPCL, and HPCL to make petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG, and other products. MRPL and HPCL are also part of the ONGC group.

This successful operation shows ONGC’s ability to manage emergencies and protect local communities while keeping energy production safe and stable. The teamwork and careful efforts of many helped bring this risky situation under control, proving the strength of India’s oil and gas safety systems.
