India-US workshop at IIT Delhi to assess 6G development
New Delhi
India is making strides in 6G research, and experts believe that collaboration with the United States can accelerate its development. To advance this goal, IIT Delhi is hosting a two-day international workshop titled Indo-US Workshop on 6G Technologies starting today(Monday) till tuesday. The workshop's primary objective is to evaluate India’s current progress in 6G technology and explore potential use cases, including new technologies, intellectual property rights (IPR), prototype creation, and equipment manufacturing. Discussions will also focus on how the India-US collaboration can help achieve these goals. 6G systems are expected to enable innovations like ubiquitous connectivity, industry automation, autonomous driving, and tactile internet, said Professor Saif Khan Mohammed of IIT Delhi’s Department of Electrical Engineering. However, these advancements will require addressing challenges like reliability, efficiency, security, and sustainability. The event will feature panel discussions and talks from telecom experts, government officials, and equipment manufacturers from both India and the US. Professor Shankar Prakriya, Head of IIT Delhi’s Electrical Engineering Department, emphasized that the workshop offers a valuable opportunity for students, researchers, and engineers to gain insights into the future of 6G. Following the successful rollout of 5G, India is making significant progress in 6G and is among the top nations in patent filings for the technology. A government-led panel predicts that India will contribute to 10% of all 6G patents and one-sixth of global standards by 2027.
