India sees 103% rise in internship opportunities
Bengaluru
India has experienced a remarkable 103% increase in internship opportunities over the last three years, a new report revealed on Wednesday. This surge in internship postings from 2022 to 2025 highlights businesses’ efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands.
The report by Indeed, a global hiring platform, noted that internship postings grew by 23% in 2024 alone. The rise can be attributed to the rapid growth of AI, data analytics, and digital transformation, where companies increasingly use internships to provide hands-on experience and identify top talent early on.
Delhi, Karnataka, and Maharashtra lead in internship searches, accounting for 7.2%, 6.8%, and 6.2% of total searches, respectively. Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, emphasized that internships offer young professionals a chance to develop critical skills, gain real-world experience, and explore career options.
The report also highlighted key skills sought by companies, including communication (31.99%), English proficiency (12%), analytical skills (9%), and expertise in SEO (8%), Microsoft Excel (8%), Python (7%), Microsoft Office (7%), and HTML/JavaScript (6%).
Interns in India earn an average stipend of Rs 25,432 per month, with cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai offering higher compensation. Meanwhile, cities like Chennai and Kolkata offer lower stipends. Additionally, many internships offer perks such as work-from-home options, flexible schedules, health insurance, and cell phone reimbursements.
