India moving ahead strongly on clean mobility
New Delhi
India is making steady progress toward its clean mobility goals, said Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways, at the ‘India Energy Storage Week 2025’ event on Thursday. He shared that the country’s focus on electric vehicles (EVs) and green transport is a key part of its climate action and economic growth plans.
Malhotra praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for pushing green mobility through programs like PM E-DRIVE and FAME-II, which help grow EV manufacturing and support cleaner transport. He also mentioned helpful policies like EV retrofitting rules and toll tax exemptions for electric vehicles to make them more popular and affordable.
The minister explained that moving to electric mobility is not just about technology, but also about protecting the environment, boosting the economy, and ensuring energy security. He spoke about new Multi-Modal Logistics Parks that connect road, rail, and warehouses. These parks now include green energy setups and EV-friendly facilities, which will lower costs and emissions.
India aims to create 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and hopes to become a global leader in clean transport solutions. Malhotra called on industry leaders to make India’s transport future not just electric, but also safe and eco-friendly.
He stressed the importance of battery storage technologies that suit India’s needs and climate. He encouraged local research, manufacturing, and recycling to make battery use more sustainable. Malhotra also said India’s strong growth over the last 11 years will help reach the country’s big target of net-zero emissions by 2070.
