India, Italy boost ties in agriculture and space
New Delhi
India and Italy will strengthen cooperation in agriculture and food processing, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said on Friday. Both countries also agreed to form Joint Working Groups in the automobile and space sectors.
The announcements came after Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani during a two-day visit to Italy, which ended on June 5. The two leaders co-chaired the 22nd session of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation in Brescia.
The meeting saw wide participation from officials and industry leaders, aimed at boosting strategic economic ties under the 2025–29 Joint Strategic Action Plan. Key areas of focus included Industry 4.0, aerospace, green energy, and digital transformation.
India and Italy plan to collaborate on sustainable farming, food packaging, and renewable energy. They also expressed support for easier movement of skilled professionals and joint initiatives like the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
A high-level Growth Forum and business delegation visit helped both sides explore new business and industrial opportunities. Goyal also visited a clean energy firm and planted a tree honoring mothers.
