India is home to nearly 53 per cent of the world’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with around 1,700 centres spread across major cities, according to a report by Vestian Research. These centres are concentrated mainly in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Pune, which together host 94 per cent of India’s total GCCs.
Bengaluru leads with 487 GCCs, making up 29 per cent of the national share. Hyderabad, with 273 centres, is the fastest-growing GCC hub. The NCR region follows closely with 272 centres, while Mumbai and Pune house 207 and 178 GCCs respectively.
Smaller cities like Kolkata, Kochi, Jaipur, and Bhopal also feature in the GCC landscape, collectively holding 6 per cent of India’s centres. The number of GCCs in India is expected to cross 2,100 by FY28, with around 150 new centres set to open each year, growing at 8 per cent annually.
The IT sector dominates India’s GCC scene, accounting for 49 per cent of the centres. The BFSI sector contributes 17 per cent, while healthcare, engineering, consulting, and media together form 19 per cent.
“India offers a skilled workforce, low costs, strong infrastructure, and a supportive business environment,” said Vestian CEO Shrinivas Rao. He noted that choosing the right city remains key for long-term success.
Since the 1990s, when companies first used GCCs for IT and support services, these centres have grown into innovation hubs. Globally, there are around 3,200 GCCs today, with India emerging as the top destination for companies seeking global support and development centres.
