Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to nuclear power as a key pillar of sustainable energy. He shared an article by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, highlighting India's plans to boost nuclear energy production.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), "Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh elaborates on how nuclear power has emerged as a crucial pillar in India's quest for a sustainable and self-reliant energy future."

Singh’s article discusses the potential of nuclear energy, the involvement of private players, and challenges faced as India's electricity demand is expected to triple by 2047. He emphasized that nuclear energy is essential for balancing rapid economic growth with carbon reduction and energy security.

“Nuclear energy represents one of the most concentrated forms of power generation, where small amounts of fuel can produce enormous quantities of electricity with minimal carbon emissions,” Singh stated.

Unlike solar and wind energy, nuclear power provides stable electricity output without being affected by weather conditions. He noted that India’s nuclear capacity has surged by over 70% in the last decade and is set to grow further with 21 reactors totaling 15,300 MW under development.

To achieve the government's 100 GW nuclear power target by 2047, the Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat aims to enhance domestic capabilities and strengthen international partnerships with Russia, France, and the US. Singh stressed the importance of safety, public trust, and financial sustainability in shaping India’s energy future.
