Health and wellness have become the most important priorities for Indian workers thinking of changing jobs, according to a new report by global firm Aon. The study shows that 82% of Indian employees plan to look for new jobs in the next 12 months, and many are basing their decisions on benefits related to well-being.

The top five valued employee benefits in India are: work-life balance programmes, medical coverage, career growth opportunities, paid time off, and retirement savings. Among these, medical coverage is rated highly by Gen X and Gen Y, while Gen Z values work-life balance the most.

A notable 76% of employees said they are ready to give up some current benefits in exchange for better options. This shows that companies must rethink their benefits plans to meet employee expectations. Nitin Sethi, Aon India’s Head of Talent Solutions, said that before the Covid-19 pandemic, very few companies linked wellness programmes with their brand image. Now, employees view these programmes as essential, and businesses are promoting them more actively.

He added that a mix of different age groups in the workforce and better technology are speeding up these changes. In the coming years, firms with strong wellness benefits will likely stand out as top employers.

The study, which covered over 9,000 employees across 23 countries, also found that better pay, social responsibility, wellness support, a fun work environment, and strong values are the top factors that attract Indian job seekers. Ashley Dsilva from Aon highlighted that even young workers are showing unexpected interest in retirement and financial planning.
