Gujarat has recorded a 145% rise in its taxpayer base since the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented in 2017. The number of registered taxpayers grew from 5.15 lakh in 2017 to 12.66 lakh in 2024–25, reflecting the state’s rapid formalisation of trade and business growth.

Gujarat’s 2024–25 taxpayer growth rate of 6.38% far exceeds the national average of 3.86%. The state’s GST revenue reached ₹1.36 lakh crore, with ₹73,200 crore from SGST and IGST, showing 13.6% growth—well above the national average.

Leading in digital compliance, Gujarat generated 13.98 crore e-way bills and ranked first in timely GST return filing. It also secured the second spot nationally on the GST KPI scoreboard, topping nine out of 22 parameters.

The simplified tax system has helped businesses thrive, boosting transparency, compliance, and economic progress across sectors.
