New Delhi
Gujarat has seen a strong rise in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), with over 37.56 lakh new registrations in the past five years, Union Minister of State for MSMEs, Shobha Karandlaje, informed Parliament on Tuesday. During the same period, 8,779 MSMEs closed operations in the state.
In her written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Karandlaje also shared that Andhra Pradesh recorded 33.78 lakh new MSME registrations from July 2020 to mid-July 2025, with 2,892 units closing down.
She noted that the government has introduced several measures to support MSMEs, which play a key role in job creation and economic growth.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said that since 2014, more than 34 crore people have found employment through MSMEs, as recorded on the Udyam and Udyam Assist portals. He said the sector faces no shortage of funds or manpower.
Manjhi also highlighted that even traditional workers like cobblers have benefited from schemes like the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. Overall, India now has over 6 crore MSMEs.
He added that lending to the MSME sector has more than doubled—from ₹12 lakh crore a decade ago to around ₹30 lakh crore today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent Budget speech, announced that loan guarantee cover for MSMEs would be raised to ₹20 crore. The government also plans to launch special credit cards with a ₹5 lakh limit to help MSMEs meet their working capital needs.
