Gujarat launches new plan to boost electronics
Ahmedabad
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has launched a new electronics policy to bring in big investments and create skilled jobs. Called the Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025 (GECMS-2025), this plan aims to attract over ₹35,000 crore and support India's goal of growing its electronics industry.
One major feature of this policy is that it gives 100% extra incentives for projects approved by the central government under its ECMS scheme. This means businesses will get help from both the central and state governments. Once the Centre gives its funds, Gujarat promises to match that amount within 30 working days.
The policy focuses on important sectors like multi-layer PCBs, lithium-ion batteries, camera parts, SMDs, and special machines. It also wants to reduce imports by making more parts in India and connecting Gujarat to global electronics supply chains.
GECMS-2025 will also boost innovation. Research groups and colleges can get up to ₹12.5 crore in grants to open Centres of Excellence, Applied Research Labs, and Finishing Schools. These will help train young people with the right skills for modern electronics jobs.
The Gujarat State Electronics Mission will run the program. Investors need to apply by July 31. The new plan will not overlap with the existing Gujarat Electronics Policy 2022-28.
With four chip-making units already in the state, Gujarat hopes this policy will make it a leader in India’s fast-growing tech industry and reduce the country's need to import electronics parts.
