Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday called for encouraging first-time vehicle buyers in India to choose electric vehicles (EVs) over traditional petrol and diesel cars. Speaking at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Goyal highlighted that India’s unique position allows the country to guide new buyers directly toward electric mobility, unlike developed countries where consumers transition from fossil fuel vehicles.

Goyal stressed that providing quality electric cars and two-wheelers to first-time buyers would not only transform the mobility ecosystem but also reduce pollution and conserve foreign currency. He emphasized that India’s automobile sector is already a global leader in two-wheeler production and a key player in global supply chains, driven by innovation and sustainability.

The minister expressed confidence that India would emerge as a global hub for mobility solutions by 2047, with initiatives like Make in India and Bharat Mobility 2025 playing a pivotal role. Goyal highlighted the need to accelerate progress in the sector to meet the aspirations of India’s 1.4 billion people and to tackle future challenges, contributing to a developed India. He concluded by expressing optimism that India would become the world’s premier destination for the mobility sector in the near future.
