Goyal discusses Fintech, diamonds, and FTA during two-day visit to London

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is on a two-day official visit to London, holding key meetings to enhance economic cooperation between India and the UK.

On the first day, Goyal engaged with top business leaders and government officials, focusing on sectors such as fintech, gems and jewellery, and trade agreements. He met Martin Gilbert, Chairperson of Revolut App, to discuss the tremendous potential of India’s fintech sector.

They highlighted the significance of global partnerships in fostering innovation and accelerating sectoral growth. “Exchanged views on the immense opportunities in India’s fintech ecosystem and the importance of partnerships with global players to drive innovation and growth,”

Goyal shared in a social media post. Goyal also held discussions with Al Cook, CEO of De Beers Group, and his team, emphasizing India’s growing presence in the global gems and jewellery market. Their talks covered sustainable practices and future prospects for the diamond industry. Later, Goyal interacted with members of the Indian business delegation over dinner. The conversation revolved around India’s robust industrial growth and the scope for deeper collaboration with the UK to achieve shared prosperity.

Earlier, upon arrival, Goyal met with the UK’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, to advance the long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that FTA talks are being relaunched. He noted that seven rounds have been held so far, and both nations are committed to concluding the agreement at the earliest.
