A new report from Gartner says that global end-user spending on generative AI (GenAI) models will reach $14.2 billion in 2025. This shows how fast companies and people are adopting this new technology worldwide.

In 2025, spending on special GenAI models, called domain-specific language models (DSLMs), is expected to reach $1.1 billion. These models are designed and trained using specific industry or business data, making them more useful for certain tasks.

Gartner predicts that by 2027, more than half of the GenAI models used by companies will be domain-specific, up from just 1 percent in 2024. This big jump shows that businesses want AI tools that work better for their specific needs.

Arunasree Cheparthi, a senior research analyst at Gartner, said foundation models (like large language models) are trained on huge amounts of data and can do many tasks. While they will still get the most spending, many companies now prefer models made for their own industries because these work better, cost less, and are more reliable.

An earlier Gartner report also said that overall spending on GenAI is set to hit $644 billion in 2025, a 76 percent jump from 2024. Most of this spending, about 80 percent, will go into hardware such as servers, smartphones, and PCs that use AI.

The report suggests that GenAI will deeply change how businesses spend on technology and how consumers use products. Companies making GenAI models are also investing billions every year to make these models even better. This rapid growth will likely continue in 2025 and beyond, reshaping many industries worldwide.
